Steve Oswald is chief operating officer for Information Solutions, a division within Boeing Network and Space Systems business of Boeing Defense, Space & Security. In this role he is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the division.
Previously, Oswald was vice president and general manager of Intelligence and Security Systems (I&SS), a division of Boeing’s Network and Space Systems, where he provided integrated solutions for the intelligence community and homeland security customers in five major program areas: Cyber and Information Solutions, Digital Receiver Technologies, Global Security Solutions, Mission Operations, and Mission Systems.
Prior to this assignment, Oswald was vice president and program manager of Boeing’s Space Shuttle Program, supporting United Space Alliance and NASA in the operation of the shuttle system.
Before joining Boeing in 2001, Rear Adm. Oswald, U.S. Navy, Retired, served as Deputy Commander of the JTF-CNO, a Washington-based Joint Task Force for Computer Network Operations responsible for the defense of more than three million Department of Defense computers and their associated networks.
During his government career with both the Navy and NASA, Oswald served as a tactical pilot, test pilot, space shuttle astronaut, and senior executive. As an astronaut, Oswald flew three space shuttle missions: He piloted two missions aboard Discovery in 1992 and 1993, and commanded STS-67 aboard Endeavour in March 1995. In 1996, Oswald was assigned to NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C., as Deputy Associate Administrator for Space Operations, responsible for the Space Shuttle, Expendable Launch Vehicles, and Space Communications programs for the agency.
Oswald holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.
