USGIF and Replogle Donate Additional Globes to Local Schools

April 28, 2010

Alexandria, Va. — USGIF continued its donation of Replogle Globes delivering 24 of them to Rose Hill Elementary School. All 24 globes will be placed in each classroom of the school for use by roughly 900 K-6th grade students.

USGIF and Replogle Globes have also donated globes to Sycolin Creek Elementary and Simpson Middle schools in Loudon County, Va., Bush Hill Elementary school in Fairfax County, Va., and Brunswick County Schools in South Carolina.

In total, 75 Explorer model globes were donated by Replogle to USGIF, which then distributed them to local schools in need of these essential learning tools. The globes were originally displayed as centerpieces during USGIF’s GEOGala black-tie dinner. Following the dinner, where it was announced that the globes were to be distributed to schools, USGIF has been distributing these great learning tools to schools that most need them.

In addition to providing learning materials, such as these globes to schools, USGIF supports geospatial education through a variety of programs such as its scholarship program, post-baccalaureate accreditation program the USGIF Academy and the James and Susan Clapper Initiative, which awards grants to underprivileged schools and programs. The foundation is dedicated to advancing the GEOINT Community—from the earliest academic stages throughout lifelong learning and tradecraft development.

From its humble beginnings in a Chicago apartment, Replogle today is the world’s largest globe manufacturer. From handcrafted masterpieces in the offices of presidents and dignitaries to classroom models that help students understand the world, Replogle’s belief in the globe as a source of wonder hasn’t changed.

USGIF is a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to promoting the geospatial intelligence tradecraft and developing a stronger community of interest between government, industry, academia, professional organizations and individuals sharing a mission focus around the development and application of geospatial intelligence to address national security objectives.
