As part of the USGIF Workshop Series, the Emerging Technologies Subcommittee is hosting an ETS Luncheon on Open Source Software Initiatives with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) Mr. Bert Beaulieu, Director of InnoVision and Mr. Keith Barber, Implementation Lead for Online On-Demand Services.

With budget pressures and intelligence needs constantly changing, technologies require innovation and evolution of the acquisition process. In response to this, NGA is introducing a significant open source software initiative intended to embrace open technology solutions, practices and procedures to more efficiently accomplish their mission. These approaches combined with external hosting, cloud based implementations and the latest internet collaboration tools have the potential of dramatically reducing life cycle costs and improving technical agility. Already, a great deal of industry and government agencies are implementing these advances. Leading these fundamental changes are Mr. Bert Beaulieu and Mr. Keith Barber.

The USGIF ETS Luncheon is the first external discussion of these initiatives. A series of announcements and briefings on Open Source Software Initiatives have been scheduled, including the MIL-OSS, OSGeo/foss4g conferences as well as at the GEOINT 2011 Symposium. NGA leadership desires to work closely with innovative industry partners to accelerate this transition. New business opportunities will emphasize these approaches and NGA will be encouraging the participation of interested parties.

Space for this event is limited to the first 50 RSVPs. Don’t miss out on this exclusive benefit of membership! To reserve your space, email RSVP@usgif.org with your name, title, organization and preferred email address.
