USGIF 2006 Scholarships Program Deadline Nears

May 19, 2006

HERNDON, Va. – The United States Geospatial Intelligence
Foundation (USGIF) is reminding high school, undergraduate and graduate students that June 15 is the deadline to submit applications for the 2006 USGIF Scholarships program.

This year, the Foundation will award 14 scholarships totaling $55,000 to promising future contributors to the geospatial intelligence tradecraft. Furthering the advancements of the last two years, the 2006 program will award scholarships to current graduate and undergraduate students studying in fields related to geospatial intelligence, and this year to
graduating high school seniors planning to pursue GIS-related studies at the university or college level.

“We are pleased to again be expanding our scholarship program in this our third year of operations,” said K. Stuart Shea, USGIF president and chairman of the board of directors. “Our ongoing focus on education helps secure the future of the geospatial intelligence tradecraft.”

Scholarship applications will be evaluated on a peer-to-peer basis in each of the four categories, assessing the qualifications of Ph.D. candidates relative to other Ph.D. candidates, Master’s candidates to other Master’s candidates, and so on.

Students interested in applying should visit the Foundation website at www.usgif.org and download the appropriate application form. Scholarship winners will be announced in
mid-August.

At its annual GEOINT Symposium, scheduled for Nov. 13-16, 2006, in Orlando, Fla., the Foundation hosts the Allder Golf Classic, named in honor of the late William R. Allder Jr., to help raise money for USGIF Scholarships. Last year’s tournament raised almost $20,000 for the scholarship program. The Foundation also opened the nomination period for its 2006 Awards Program, which recognizes the geospatial intelligence contributions of professionals in academia, government, industry and the military.

The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation is a Virginia-based nonstock, not-for-profit 501©(3) corporation. The Foundation is dedicated to promoting the
geospatial intelligence tradecraft and developing a stronger community of interest between government, industry, academia, professional organizations and individuals who share a
