John Fenwick

Technology Development & Operations Executive

Until recently, John Fenwick led end-to-end operations for Terra Bella (a Google company), including the flight control of and data production from multiple high-resolution space imaging satellites. He was previously a co-founder of Skybox Imaging, Inc, which was acquired by Google for $500M in August 2014.

John is a former active-duty US Air Force officer with experience managing a range of national intelligence and military space programs, all focused on transitioning new capabilities from lab bench to orbit. In addition to development roles spanning the national space community, his tenure at the Pentagon also included several years of space intelligence advocacy on Capitol Hill. Prior to his work inside the Beltway, John designed and built airborne imaging cameras as an Air Force research physicist.

John met his Skybox co-founders while earning an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He previously earned an Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, where he was a Draper Laboratory Fellow and built more than a few robots. John is also a distinguished graduate of the US Air Force Academy, where he jumped out of several perfectly good airplanes and served as Table Commandant.

In his free time, John enjoys trail running, backcountry snowboarding, and Scrabble.
