USGIF is offering the opportunity to conduct training and education sessions during the GEOINT 2022 Symposium, April 25-27, at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, Aurora, Colorado.

USGIF individual or organizational members and designated representatives from USGIF collegiate accredited programs may apply to present a one-hour class related to global GEOINT national security-related topics.

The purpose of these training sessions is for geospatial intelligence subject matter experts to provide a cross-sectional, short training on competencies and/or knowledge tied to GEOINT applications, technology, policy, and tradecraft of particular interest to our community. All training sessions are learning opportunities for attendees, not commercial presentations. We will provide verified attendees with Certificates of Participation.

There are two training and education categories:

  1. Technology Agnostic: may include (but not limited to) policy, generalized technology, models, methodologies, and frameworks that can be interoperable among various systems. We will prioritize topics related to the Symposium theme: The Foundation of Intelligence.
  2. Hands-on training: skills-specific training in the latest commercial software and/or tools.

While we allow specific organizational software, hardware, and tools for short case study demonstrations, presenters should limit organizational promotion to one introductory slide. We will reject all sales pitch presentations (more than one slide about the company and products).

Apply

To be considered to present a training/education class at GEOINT 2022, submit the following required items to training@usgif.org no later than Monday, February 14.

Please state which training category you are applying for (technology agnostic or hands-on). If the instructor is not creating the course, please provide the course creator’s experience, biography, and contact information.

Required information:

  1. Title of training (shorter titles are preferred).
  2. Instructor* full name, title, contact information (email and phone number), short biography (one paragraph only will be published).
  3. Learning outcomes and needed prerequisite knowledge, skills, and/or licenses (if any). Learning outcomes are specific, measurable knowledge and skills that the learner will gain by attending this training. Start with: “By taking this training, the learner will be able to…“ Focus on fewer but achievable outcomes given the short timeframe.
Note: We may accept a few proposals for two-part training on topics that require two sessions to achieve the learning outcomes. Please submit both in one single proposal.
  4. A summary of the session (250 words max) explaining why this class will be of value to GEOINT 2022 attendees (this will serve as your training advertising description). We will give preference to training sessions that focus on and clearly articulate how the proposed training fits into the GEOINT Essential Body of Knowledge (EBK).

The summary should describe the proposed training concisely, state its value, and explain why an attendee should attend the session. The instructor(s) should be able to answer the following question: “Why is my course compelling?”

Failure to include any of the four required items will result in an automatic rejection of the training proposal. Please follow the required format.

* One instructor (only) will receive complimentary registration to GEOINT 2022. We expect any additional co-presenters to register individually or use organization-designated registration slots to participate in the event.

Selection Process

We will only review materials of complete application packages. We will notify individuals or organizational representatives on or before March 4 whether they have been accepted to present at GEOINT 2022.

If Selected

If selected to present at GEOINT 2022, you must submit the final training slides and supplementary training materials (if any) to USGIF by March 21 for review and approval. We will notify the instructor by email if any changes are needed. Also, a USGIF representative and the instructor will plan a mandatory virtual meeting to go over the presentation before the event.

If you (the instructor) cannot attend or submit the final course materials within the March 21 deadline, we will automatically select an alternative training as a replacement.

We reserve the right to cancel any training at any time. No-show training presenters or presenters who fail to provide adequate training materials for a full one-hour session will be disqualified from future GEOINT Training opportunities.

Important notes:

  1. While we allow the inclusion of organizational team members in communication exchanges, we will only correspond with the designated instructor from start to end.
  2. We will not provide the instructor or their organization with an attendee contact list. However, we allow instructors to circulate an attendance sheet or link for digital opt-ins during the training session.

Logistics:

We will only provide basic internet connection—presenters are responsible for finding other solutions to provide access to software and data and bring their own laptops. We expect all participants in a hands-on session to bring their own computers.
