The Academic Committee is assists the USGIF Director of Academic Programs and the Academic Advisory Board in planning for and implementing USGIF’s educational initiatives. In addition to providing scholarships for high school, undergraduate and graduate students, the committee supports an accreditation program at the university and college level. USGIF accreditation of collegiate Geospatial Intelligence certificate programs supports vital national security interests by assuring that students are prepared for careers within the growing GEOINT enterprise.
The Academic Subcommittees include the Accreditation Subcommittee and Scholarship Subcommittee.

In 2005, USGIF formed an Accreditation panel that over an 18-month period established, published, and verified standards for learning objectives supporting the tradecraft. Following a review and public comment phase, the USGIF will accredit courses and programs; Universities and Colleges confer the Geospatial Intelligence Certificate to successful students.
