October 9, 2018

On September 28-29, USGIF hosted the GEOAcademic Summit at its headquarters in Herndon, Va. to engage representatives from its academic programs in conversations with government and industry. The GEOAcademic Summit is a two-day, invite-only event that gathered about 50 individuals representing 26 universities as well as leadership from government and the geospatial industry. These organizations included NGA, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Esri, Boundless, Hexagon Geospatial, Radiant Solutions, CACI, SAIC, Reinventing Geospatial Inc., GSX, and others.

Representatives from USGIF’s 16 accredited schools, along with USGIF academic partners and members, listened to briefings from industry and government on programs and resources to assist with their GEOINT program needs. Attendees also participated in roundtable discussions on various themes to collaborate on where they think these topics are going in the future and how to implement in USGIF’s current initiatives. Themes included future trends in GEOINT curriculum; GEOINT in business; GEOINT at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); K-12 education and outreach; GEOINT events, professional development, and publications; and NGA College course collaboration.
