Deputy Director, Corporate Communications


Mr. Alex Berger currently serves as the Deputy Director for the Office of Corporate Communications at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. In this capacity, he assists with overseeing NGA’s congressional liaison, public affairs and media relations, strategic engagement, internal communications, community relations, and organizational history. 

Mr. Berger entered the Defense Intelligence Senior Executive Service in 2014. Since joining NGA, Mr. Berger has served in a variety of senior leadership positions, including Director of the Office of Asia Pacific Analysis, and GEOINT Mission Manager for East Asia where he directed all GEOINT mission activities focused on China and North Korea. He served as Director, Office of Analytic Content Services where he oversaw production management, production support services, and analytic tradecraft and training, including evaluation of NGA’s analytic content for compliance with ICD 203 tradecraft standards. He also served as Director, Office of Talent Management in the Human Development Directorate, where he oversaw the establishment of NGA’s Career Services Program and orchestrated all recruitment, hiring, and career development activities for NGA’s 9,000 civilian employees. 

Mr. Berger began his career as an Intelligence Officer in the US Air Force. During his 23-year military career, Mr. Berger served in a variety of operational, command, and staff positions at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels. Mr. Berger deployed in support of numerous contingency operations, including Operations DENY FLIGHT, PROVIDE COMFORT, NORTHERN WATCH, and IRAQI FREEDOM/ENDURING FREEDOM. As the Deputy Director for ISR Operations in the Combat Operations Division of the AFCENT Combined Air Operations Center, he oversaw the real-time execution of over 9,000 ISR sorties in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Horn of Africa. Mr. Berger served three tours at the Defense Intelligence Agency, including as the Deputy Chief, Presentations Division of the Joint Staff J2, where he was the senior editor of the SECDEF/CJCS Daily Intelligence Briefing, the most widely-read intelligence product in the Department of Defense. He also commanded the 570th Global Mobility Readiness Squadron at Travis AFB, California, an expeditionary unit providing combat commanders with a rapid airbase-opening capability. 

Mr. Berger earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire, a M.S. in International Relations from Troy State University, a M.A. in National Security Affairs from the US Naval Postgraduate School, and a Master of Operational Military Arts and Sciences from Air University. His research paper on realistic air combat training was selected for publication in the Air and Space Power Journal and won second prize in the Ira C. Eaker Essay Competition. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the US Naval Postgraduate School and the Air Command and Staff College. Mr. Berger also attended the Israeli National Defense College in Tel Aviv, Israel.
