Deputy Director of National Intelligence
Mr. Dustin Gard-Weiss became the Deputy Director of National Intelligence (DDNI) for Policy and Capabilities (P&C) on August 16, 2020. In this role, he will work to ensure the Intelligence Community (IC) is well-positioned to anticipate and meet future mission requirements.
Prior to this position, Mr. Gard-Weiss served as the Associate Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Enterprise Capacity where he helped lead the organization responsible for IC resources, workforce, systems, technology, acquisitions, and infrastructure.
Mr. Gard-Weiss previously served as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s first Associate Director for Enterprise, responsible for leading and managing U.S. and international GEOINT community partnerships, executing the GEOINT Functional Manager authorities, and chairing the U.S. GEOINT Committee of Record. He has worked on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) as the Assistant Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence / Assistant Head of the Naval Intelligence Activity (NIA). In this role, he supported the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare / Director of Naval Intelligence (OPNAV N2/N6) and the Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence / Head, NIA in delivering comprehensive intelligence to Navy leadership, representing the Navy as a member of the IC, and managing and overseeing the Navy’s intelligence activities. He was appointed to the Defense Intelligence Senior Executive Service in 2012, initially serving as the Acting Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence.
Mr. Gard-Weiss began his career as an intern at the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). At ONI, he was responsible for managing the Navy’s foreign intelligence relationships. Following his transition to OPNAV, Mr. Gard-Weiss served as a senior strategy and policy advisor to the Director of Naval Intelligence, established and led a Program Analysis and Evaluation Office to measure the performance and return on investment of Navy’s intelligence resources, was the Special Assistant to the Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence, and finally led the office responsible for delivering intelligence to the Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, and their staffs. He also served at the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Joint Interagency Task Force – Combating Terrorism as the Deputy Counter Terrorism (CT) Mission Manager, helping lead the Department of Defense’s CT Intelligence Enterprise.
Mr. Gard-Weiss earned a BA in International Relations from Brown University and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
