Mississippi State University Earns USGIF Accreditation for GEOINT Certificate Programs
MSU’s undergraduate and graduate Geospatial Intelligence certificate programs join USGIF’s network of accredited academic programs.
The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) has awarded accreditation to Mississippi State University’s undergraduate and graduate certificate programs in Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT), recognizing the programs for meeting USGIF’s established Standards and Criteria for GEOINT academic programs.
The accreditation is effective August 21, 2026, through August 21, 2031.
“Mississippi State University has built a strong GEOINT program that combines rigorous academics, interdisciplinary learning, and meaningful connections to government and industry,” said Ronda Schrenk, CEO of USGIF. “We’re proud to welcome MSU to our community of accredited colleges and universities and look forward to seeing how its students and graduates contribute to the GEOINT mission.”
Mississippi State University’s GEOINT certificate programs provide students with a strong academic foundation in geospatial intelligence, developing the geospatial skills, analytical capabilities, and interdisciplinary knowledge needed to pursue careers across the GEOINT Community.
USGIF conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the programs from fall 2025 through summer 2026, including independent review by geospatial subject matter experts, a site visit, and a final assessment against USGIF’s accreditation standards.
The review highlighted several strengths across MSU’s programs, including:
- A rigorous curriculum aligned with the GEOINT Essential Body of Knowledge (EBK)
- Experienced faculty representing a range of teaching, research, and professional backgrounds
- Strong interdisciplinary education supported by state-of-the-art facilities and institutional resources
- Meaningful partnerships with government and industry
- Strong educational objectives, enrollment, and student retention
“USGIF accreditation affirms the strength of our GEOINT programs and the commitment of our faculty to preparing students with the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to succeed in the geospatial intelligence field,” said Dr. John Rodgers, Head of the Department of Geosciences, Mississippi State University. “This recognition reflects years of investment in our curriculum, our facilities, and our partnerships, and it gives our students and graduates a meaningful credential as they pursue careers across the defense and intelligence community.”
USGIF accreditation provides colleges and universities with an independent assessment of the rigor, relevance, and quality of their GEOINT-related academic programs. Accredited programs demonstrate that their curricula, faculty, resources, and educational outcomes align with standards designed to support the knowledge and competencies needed across the GEOINT profession.
Mississippi State University joins USGIF’s growing network of accredited colleges and universities, part of the Foundation’s broader commitment to strengthening GEOINT education and developing the profession’s future workforce.
