Yet, the essence of intelligence problems is human, hidden, and every now and then unprecedented. Understanding the human essence is both an art and a science. While science is an objective, analytic, value neutral and materially oriented means of understanding the natural world, its precision has limitations when it comes to understanding human behavior. Scientists, mathematicians, and scholars of the humanities can build on each other’s work to push the science of GEOINT forward by having a closer look at human society and behaviors, as well as culture and social constructs. This panel will discuss how to combine the three essences through collaboration and progress and lead to scientific breakthroughs. It will change how we collect, what we collect, how we process and analyze, and for whom (or what) we disseminate. If human machine teaming, autonomy, and real-time sensing and decision making are our future, then we need to start today to transform how we approach GEOINT.
1:30P		Panel: From Geomatics to Geospatially Intelligent Service Science The nature and availability of information about our place on Earth has changed radically over the last 20 years. The proliferation of GNSS-enabled devices and the subsequent real-time mapping revolution has permanently given everyone a real and reliable source of geopositioning data. Now, living in the era of big data, traditional geomatics will surely take advantage of the integration of communication, navigation, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and brain cognition science, and take the next step in GEOINT service science impacting everything from security to economics to day-to-day personal decision-making. Evolving location provisioning services will likely be critical to new place-based solutions as the need to support GNSS-denied collection and more accurate & precise coordinates becomes necessary. This panel will explore some of the connection points and frame up what the world will come to look like as a result. 2:45P		Panel: Climate Change: Following the Science for a More Secure Nation With a strong, credible body of evidence, based on multiple lines of research from around the world, science has made enormous inroads in understanding climate change, its causes, and potential impacts that can significantly disturb our systems as we know them today. Still, despite thorough scientific questions and hypotheses and well-documented applied research, much remains to be learned. Using the best science to continue to understand the impact of a changing climate is critical, allowing decision-makers to place climate change in the context of other large challenges facing the nation and the world. This panel will discuss the science and culture behind climate change, share examples of GEOINT used in mitigation scenarios, case studies on climate change impacts to humanitarian crises, and unveil the links between adaptive capacity, adaptation, and global development. 3:15P		Keynote: Accelerating the Future of GEOINT for National Security – Cindy Daniell, Ph.D., Director, Research, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency GEOINT provides our national security apparatus a foundational understanding of the world around us. It informs our Nation’s responses to the full spectrum of threats: from cataloging the impacts of climate security to tracking adversary’s missile forces. While the government used to have a monopoly on such data, barriers to entry into the GEOINT marketplace have come down, creating new classified and unclassified information streams that our analysts must prioritize, catalogue, assess, and disseminate at the speed of need. To maintain America’s GEOINT edge in light of these trends, we are reimagining how we do business across all disciplines. We are finding new ways to deliver intelligence to policymakers and warfighters; evolving business processes to capture all sources of innovation; leveraging promising technologies, such as automation and artificial intelligence; and finally, investing in our people, our most important competitive advantage.

GEOINT Foreword

Tuesday, Oct. 5

GEOINT Foreword is the unclassified, pre-conference science and technology day preceding USGIF’s GEOINT Symposium. This forum celebrates geospatial achievements and programs underway in non-traditional geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) areas such as health, sports, disaster relief, data analysis, unmanned systems, and much more. In this program, we seek to immerse attendees in both the art and the science of this ever-growing discipline.

GEOINT Foreword convenes experts from government, academia, and industry to discuss advances in GEOINT tradecraft and innovation. The program delivers keynote speakers, panel discussions, learning tracks, and networking opportunities. Previous Foreword events have featured ground-breaking research taking place at DARPA, IARPA, CIA, U.S. National Laboratories, and numerous university and industry partners.

Main Stage

The GEOINT Main Stage will be the premier attraction to the first half of each day, with sessions that set the stage for robust and important discussions among the community. The speaker slate includes leaders and visionaries from the highest levels of the U.S. government, industry, and academia. Hear from keynote speakers, panels, and more before you break for lunch, enter afternoon sessions and explore the exhibit hall.

Hubs

New for 2021, the GEOINT Symposium includes five themed “hubs” in the Exhibit Hall featuring afternoon programs, such as panels, lightning talks, and keynotes. These agendas will include topics that delve further into themes from the Main Stage programs and expand into other discussions regarding GEOINT Discovery and Connections.

Government Hub
The Government Hub includes topics that relate to federal, state, and local government interests and collaboration in geospatial intelligence. Government Hub programs will include speakers from across the public sector elements of the global GEOINT enterprise focused on topics related to their unique needs and initiatives.

Enlightenment Hub
The Enlightenment Hub is where the audience will be following the art and science of GEOINT from concept to methodologies and solutions. You will hear from the scientific, research and academic community (including students) in a series of short presentations, fireside chats, short demonstrations, and panel discussions.

St. Louis Hub
The St Louis Hub will showcase our host city of St. Louis as a center of excellence for geospatial intelligence and location tech, featuring discussions of regional initiatives related to this burgeoning geospatial ecosystem and appearances by noteworthy St. Louisans!

Innovation Hub
The Innovation Hub features Lightning Talks focused on technology and innovation that are driving our community toward the future. The Lightning Talks represent an opportunity to inform, educate, and collaborate with colleagues on new technologies and solutions, and focus on GEOINT applications conducted by Research & Development teams, scientists, analysts, and other community professionals.

YPG Hub
The Young Professionals Hub is the center for young professionals to network with peers and hear from leaders in the GEOINT field. This Hub also hosts USGIF’s Golden Ticket program with exclusive content for the golden ticket winners.

Training

USGIF offers attendees 30+ hours of training and professional development opportunities on a variety of topics. Training courses are held Tuesday, October 5, through Friday, October 8, in the early morning and afternoon. Each training session requires an additional small fee and is not included in any other registration.

Working Group Meetings

Join USGIF’s Working Groups for community-wide discussions on matters which they are exploring as part of their ongoing activities. These sessions are open to all attendees and exhibitors.

Golden Ticket Program

Each year, USGIF offers the Golden Ticket program as an opportunity for young professionals 35 years old or younger to win complimentary full registration to the GEOINT Symposium as well as participate in mentoring sessions with senior GEOINT leaders, attend USGIF’s Chairman’s Reception, and much more.
