USGIF Accredits Two New Universities: USGIF is pleased to announce its accreditation of Saint Louis University (SLU) in St. Louis, Mo., and Johns Hopkins University (JHU) at their Washington, D.C. campus, under its Collegiate Accreditation Program. Additionally, the University of Missouri at Columbia (MU) renewed their accreditation with the Foundation. This brings the total of USGIF-accredited colleges and universities to 18, the most the Foundation has had since its inception.
SLU offers both undergraduate and graduate GEOINT certificates. The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences within the College of Arts and Sciences at the university offers a vast number of undergraduate and graduate degree programs and provides unique, campus-wide learning experiences. It was the first geophysics department in the western hemisphere, and the research produced spans across a broad spectrum of the physical sciences. The department combines strong classroom and field-based instruction with internationally recognized research.
JHU offers a 12-course online interdisciplinary Master of Science in Geospatial Intelligence that enables students to learn and lead the profession of geospatial intelligence. The online program’s curriculum, designed for geospatial practitioners, offers unique courses such as communicating geospatial analysis to multiple audiences, small satellites and collection management, social media and geospatial information, and a geospatial law and ethics course in development.
“USGIF believes strongly in developing and supporting communities where faculty, students, practitioners, and commercial entities can come together to learn from each other and exchange ideas, knowledge, expertise, tools, and data,” said Dr. Camelia Kantor, USGIF Vice President of Academic Affairs. “By adding two very reputable U.S.-based universities—Johns Hopkins University and St. Louis University—we continue to expand our group of select institutions committed to geospatial intelligence.”
The University of Missouri (MU) at Columbia—one of the first, three initially accredited programs by USGIF—renewed its accreditation through the school’s Department of Geography. MU’s accreditation renewal showcases the sustainability and long-term commitment of the Foundation’s accredited schools.
