Herndon, VA., June 10, 2024 – The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation and Black Cape are pleased to announce a new multi-year scholarship, the Black Cape Scholarship for Women in Geospatial Intelligence.  Each summer the scholarship will be awarded to one female student studying geospatial, geography, geospatial technology, or a related field at the undergraduate level with the intent to work for the U.S. Government.

“The field of geospatial intelligence is crucial for national security, and USGIF is committed to fostering a pipeline of talented professionals,” noted USGIF CEO Ronda Schrenk. “The Black Cape Scholarship for Women in Geospatial Intelligence is a fantastic opportunity to encourage and empower women to pursue careers in this critical field. We are grateful to Black Cape for their partnership and support.”

In addition to the general doctoral, graduate, undergraduate, and graduating high school senior scholarships that USGIF offers, the Black Cape multi-year scholarship brings USGIF’s total number of recurring scholarships to 12. USGIF has awarded more than $1.7M in scholarships since launching the program in 2004.

As part of the ongoing selection process for USGIF’s general and other recurring scholarships, the first Black Cape Scholarship for Women in Geospatial Intelligence will be awarded in the summer of 2024 during USGIF’s award cycle.

Black Cape co-CEO and co-Founder Al Di Leonardo noted, “When Abe Usher and I first worked together in U.S. Special Operations and within the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, many of our colleagues were talented women who really led the way, in both technology and analysis. Through the Black Cape scholarship, we hope to attract more talented women to the geospatial field and create great career opportunities for them to work within the U.S. Government.”
