At GEOINT 2026, a New Maritime Working Group and an Open Invitation to Get Involved
USGIF is launching a Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) Working Group at GEOINT Symposium 2026, bringing together professionals across defense, intelligence, industry, and academia to build a more complete, actionable understanding of the maritime domain.
Why Maritime Domain Awareness, and Why Now
Maritime domain awareness sits at the intersection of national security, global commerce, environmental monitoring, and geopolitical competition. The work spans vessel tracking and port security, sanctions enforcement, illegal fishing, and critical infrastructure protection — drawing on satellite imagery, synthetic aperture radar, AIS data, radio frequency signals, and open-source intelligence.
The working group will focus on:
- Advancing TPED across maritime intelligence workflows
- Identifying gaps in sensing, data fusion, and analytics
- Exploring AI’s role in accelerating analysis and reducing latency
- Aligning emerging capabilities with national strategies and operational requirements
