Dr. Nicholas V. Olijnyk

Dr. Nicholas V. Olijnyk is a senior technical advisor in the Office for GEOINT Advantage, Special Programs Group at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). His responsibilities include working across the GEOINT enterprise on the coordination of strategy, projects and activities to minimize risks and maximize opportunities for emerging disruptive technologies. Prior to this role, Dr. Olijnyk was a Senior Data Officer within NGA’s Data and Digital Innovation Directorate supporting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to automate GEOINT analysis and collection workflows, manage ML artifacts, and integrate ML capabilities across the GEOINT Enterprise for warfighters, decisionmakers, and first responders. He has also held positions as data scientist and data analyst imbedded within Analysis during which he applied data science solutions for illicit finance, economic security, and counterterrorism problem-sets. His expertise in the application of coding solutions for advanced collection and analytics, knowledge modeling, and research design helped develop new tradecraft and technical infrastructure for solving intelligence and security issues across a broad range of topics.

Dr. Olijnyk’s previous professional defense and intelligence experience includes associate professor of cybersecurity at Long Island University’s (LIU) Homeland Security and Terrorism Institute, published research scholar, Army civilian research support liaison to the Army Cyber Institute and Combating Terrorism Center at West Point and recipient of several medals and commodations to include Non-Article 5 NATO and Global War on Terrorism medals. Dr. Olijnyk is a certified GEOINT Professional, holds a Ph.D. from LIU in information science and master’s from the City University of New York and he has years of diverse training and related experiences to include completion of the Army’s Space and Missile Defense School’s Army Space Cadre Course and the Intelligence Community’s Advanced Multimedia Forensics Analysis Course.
