USGIF published version 2.0 of its Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Essential Body of Knowledge (EBK). The GEOINT EBK is the foundation for USGIF’s efforts to create a pipeline for the global GEOINT workforce via its K-12, Collegiate Accreditation, and Certified GEOINT Professional (CGP™) programs.
USGIF Publishes Version 2.0: USGIF published version 2.0 of its Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Essential Body of Knowledge (EBK). The GEOINT EBK is the foundation for USGIF’s efforts to create a pipeline for the global GEOINT workforce via its K-12, Collegiate Accreditation, and Certified GEOINT Professional (CGP™) programs.
The EBK is developed by conducting a cross-industry job analysis to identify the knowledge, skills, and abilities critical to the GEOINT workforce, and outlines standards for the broad practice of GEOINT. As the GEOINT profession continues to evolve so does the EBK, reflecting meaningful changes to the tradecraft and incorporating new technology and methodologies.
“Version 2.0 of the EBK is significantly more comprehensive and helps guide the pathway into GEOINT learning starting from high school, moving into college, and into the professional workforce,” said USGIF Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Camelia Kantor. “With this newly revamped document, the intent is to bridge the gaps between high school prerequisites, collegiate credentials, and professional certifications in a continuum of building blocks. USGIF’s academic GEOINT certificates provide a baseline measure of competency across the full spectrum of EBK topics and are aimed at moving into the more complex application and mastery levels required in USGIF’s CGP™ professional exams.”
USGIF Publishes Version 2.0: The updated EBK represents significant progress in the GEOINT field in terms of identifying the different parts that comprise this diverse and dynamic discipline.
To date, USGIF has accredited 16 college and university GEOINT Certificate programs and offers CGP™ exams in the areas of: GIS & Analysis Tools CGP-G™; Remote Sensing & Imagery Analysis CGP-R™; and Geospatial Data Management CGP-D™.
“For a complete package, USGIF has matched all of its educational initiatives, including its K-12 materials, to the GEOINT EBK,” said Dr. Kantor. “GEOINT can now be used as a model for providing a career pathway starting as early as K-12 education then leading into collegiate preparation and life-long learning and professional development.”
