The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) is pleased to announce the election of six new members to its Board of Directors. The newly elected board members are Stephen Hanna, Stacy Kubicek, Nicole Mathern, Brian O’Toole, Jeff Robertson, and Johnny Sawyer.

New Board Members

Stephen Hanna, is a sales operations manager on the U.S. Government Strategic Growth Team at Maxar Technologies. Hanna began his GEOINT career at Geoeye in 2013 after a previous career in Travel and Tourism, and later joined Vricon where he worked as an analyst in 3D production and later in sales. Hanna brings his passion and energy about the GEOINT tradecraft as well as Space sustainability to USGIF. He comes to the board as one of two Young Professionals Group (YPG) representatives. Stacy Kubicek is the vice president and general manager for Mission Solutions at Lockheed Martin Space, a role in which she focuses on delivering and operating mission critical hardware and software solutions for government defense and intelligence agencies, as well as commercial and international customers. Kubicek was previously the deputy to the vice president and general manager for Mission Solutions and vice president of Intelligence and Analytic Development, and began her career with Lockheed Martin as a Software Engineer. Nicole Mathern is an aeronautical and geospatial analyst at Leidos, working at the heart of the St. Louis geospatial community and is a U.S. Army veteran. Her passion is to bridge the gap in STEM education in inequitable communities through partnership and collaboration, develop future talent pools, and solve national problems. Driven by that passion, Mathern also established a nonprofit, K-Career Inc, which is a STEAM education initiative, small business collaborator, and supporter of local community entities. She joins the board as one of two YPG representatives. Read full bio.

Brian O’Toole is the chief executive officer (CEO) of BlackSky, a space data and analytics company. As a pioneer in real-time earth observation and geospatial intelligence, O’Toole’s vision and thought leadership are behind the company’s strategy of using the vantage of space and the power of AI to provide real-time intelligence solutions to government and major enterprise customers around the world. Previously serving as BlackSky’s chief technology officer, he joined the company in 2016 when BlackSky acquired OpenWhere, which he founded in 2013.  O’Toole has held a number of senior leadership and technical roles at start-up, early stage, and Fortune 500 companies including GeoEye, GE Aerospace, Textron Systems, and Overwatch. Jeff Robertson currently serves as the chief operations officer and chief risk officer for Maxar. His responsibilities include satellite operations, ground engineering and operations, and geospatial product production. In addition, Robertson leads the Maxar shared services organization. Jeff previously served as senior vice president, chief information officer (CIO) and chief risk officer. Prior to joining Maxar, Robertson was the CIO and chief information security officer at ADT Security Services. Jeff’s prior experience includes internet product and services startups, large program portfolio management, leading finance and performance management innovation for customers at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). Johnny Sawyer is founder of The Sawyer Group, a consulting firm that partners with organizations to deliver tailor-made practical defense, intelligence, and strategic management solutions. Following a 22-year career as a U.S. Army officer, Sawyer joined the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2001 and served in multiple positions of increased responsibility during his 20-year tenure there, culminating as DIA’s chief of staff. As the third ranking officer at DIA, he was the agency’s chief operating officer—overseeing 16,000 officers and a multi-billion-dollar budget and exercising broad responsibilities to ensure continued excellence while simultaneously developing plans, process improvements and strategies to prepare the agency for future success. Stuart Shea, president and CEO of Peraton, will remain as directors emeritus.

The foundation appreciates the talented individuals who previously served on the board of directors— Dr. Roger Mason, president Space, Intelligence and Cyber Sector at Peraton, Carmen Medina, founder of MedinAnalytics and co-founder of RebelsatWork.com, and Patty Mims, director of Global National Government at Esri.
