Stephen Hanna

Maxar Technologies
SSA/SDA Product Manager

A trained GEOINT’er, Stephen Hanna started his career in GIS at Geoeye, one of the original commercial satellite imager providers, mapping airports in 3D for flight safety use-cases. After Geoeye was acquired by DigitalGlobe in 2013 he joined Vricon – the DigitalGlobe-SAAB Joint Venture – as part of the 2nd round of hires with the mission to “build the globe in 3D” using DigitalGlobe’s extensive image archive. Starting in the 3D Production department as a 3D Geospatial Analyst, Stephen eventually found his home demonstrating Vricon’s products, capabilities and workflows in front of customers. This led to a transfer to the Sales department as an ISR Sales Engineer, then Sales Engineer and later a Sales Operations Manager. Stephen continued his work in Sales Operations after Maxar acquired Vricon in 2020, but outside of working hours Stephen was very focused and began cultivating an interest on the Space debris issue, Space policy and law, and the growing need for reliable SSA/SDA commercial services. In 2023 Stephen followed this passion for SSA by becoming the newly created SSA/SDA Product Manager at Maxar. This product portfolio includes Maxar’s industry leading NEI (Non-Earth Imaging) product and services.

Stephen has been a member of the USGIF Young Professionals Group since 2015, winner of a 2019 Golden Ticket to the GEOINT Symposium in San Antonio Texas, and co-chair of the YPG Working Group since 2022. Stephen currently holds one of two YPG Board Seats on the USGIF’s Board of Directors. Additionally, Stephen is one of the founding members of the new USGIF SSA WG and has recently started the Space Policy sub-group within it.

Stephen brings his passion and energy about the GEOINT tradecraft and Space sustainability to USGIF. He is excited to contribute to the USGIF’s main mission of developing and strengthening a community of interest between government, industry, academia, professional organizations and individuals who share mission focus for the development and application of geospatial intelligence (and space-based intelligence) to improve national security.
