10:00-11:00 Panel: “Hic Sunt Dracones” – Stories of Success in Scaling Federal AI
Ancient cartographers included the phrase “Here be dragons” to denote uncharted areas of maps where dangers were thought to exist. Implementation of AI for GEOINT does cross into unchartered and complex territory. However, the GEOINT community can learn much from other federal organizations that have successfully navigated the paths from AI pilots to implementation. This panel of leaders will share some of their own stories about implementation of non-GEOINT AI capabilities, from which the GEOINT community can learn.
Moderator: Wynn Thane, Co-Chair, USGIF Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Working Group

2:15-2:30 Networking Break
2:30-3:30 Panel: "Verify, But Trust?" – Quality Assurance and Control for Machine Learning
There are both behavioral and technical hurdles that present potential barriers to adoption of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning capabilities in the GEOINT Community. For example, how do we verify models when the events and activities we’re trying to predict don’t happen very often? How do we encourage users to “trust the machines” vs relying as we have traditionally on fallible human judgment? Join this exploration of how organizations are pursuing quality assurance, quality control, and trust in machine learning, examining current practices and looking at emerging approaches.

3:30-4:15 Panel: Academic Contributions to GEOINT AI
Industry and government stakeholders certainly aren’t the only actors moving the needle forward in the Artificial Intelligence space. Academic institutions such as universities and research centers are home to some of the most innovative research in GEOINT AI. From tackling humanitarian issues like climate change and global health, to supporting the Army’s One World Terrain project through modeling and simulation, to leading the ICESat-2 missions, these panelists represent a wide range of cutting-edge GEOINT AI research. Learn how leaders in academia both support government and industry and blaze their own trail in geospatial artificial intelligence.
